As mentioned in the chapter “Silk Ribbons of Bombyx”, the silk wyrm Bombyx the Giant is a massive creature. She dwells in a dark lair between Fungal Sea and Mosswood. Her silk is a highly coveted resource. Adventurers use it in the wild, for climbing and other survival related activities, and skilled crafters create the finest garments and the sturdiest gear from it.
When adventurers enter the lair of Bombyx for the first time, not everyone reacts with the bold recklessness they boast about in their tales. For the unfamiliar, this encounter, with an otherworldly horror in the deep, is a battle with the mind, more than anything else. Not succumbing to the fear and losing one’s sanity in the process, that is the real challenge.
In the past, many have chosen violence when trying to steal her silk, and many have failed. Others have arrived with offerings, desiring to strike a bargain with Bombyx. Historical records of these encounters tell of mixed results. Who knows, on a good day she might deem you and your offerings worthy, and you can leave her cave with mind and body intact.
