The simple two player card game goes back to a myth from the times of the Corruption. Survivors of the first calamity supposedly collected bone fragments; the texts specifically name bone fragments of β€œthe traitorous capital elite, executed or otherwise parted from the living, for crimes against land and life.” After the dust had settled, disputes about the distribution of property took place. Whatever was left standing on the surface, or found in treasure hoards, buried deep beneath the earth, was contested. Means of settlement had to be found. The bone fragments where carved into dice and people started rolling the dice against each other.

Today, the macabre framework of Bone Bargain has mostly been forgotten, and the veneer has changed, as the dice are made of wood instead of bone. But the mechanic of rolling for a desired object survived for centuries. The deck of cards consists of six suits: leaf, root, water, wind, blood, and bone. Each suit consists of six numbered cards from one to six. Three cards are dealt in a neutral zone between the players. Players roll dice and use the number of pips to bid on desired cards in the display. Each round the display is refreshed and bidding continues, until a player declares a set, which they then play. If one player empties their hand the game stops and points are counted.
