To travel some of the outer regions that surround the deep woods, one can board the Cloud Whale, an airship ferry, operated by a diverse union of Gens. The routes of the line span a network of clearings, all located in the green sea: the part of the forest which is characterised by moderate and even growth. The Cloud Whale floats strictly from clearing to clearing, with no opportunity to exit the ship en route, since the growth might be moderate, but the peaceful green blanket of treetops below is deceptive.

The ferry connects metropolitan and rural areas alike, but can never travel into the deep woods or cross over mountain chains, which is due to a natural limitation of the ship. Charging is done conveniently at charging terminals directly at the clearing’s port. Tanks filled with specialised microbe cultures concentrate nitrogen which is then used by the airship as lifting gas. This is sustainable, but comes with the drawback of producing not enough lift to fly over mountains or the wild trees of the deep woods. Still, once aloft, the journey along one route can cover vast distances of the sprawling forest.

Don’t be fooled though, by the serene nature of this casual mode of transportation. Many dangerous adventures have started and ended in the narrow quarters of a cabin or compartment.
