The object of many debates, marrow of Leviathan bones is a rare and potent substance. It appears in contemporary cuisines, in a wide range of diverse cultures, where it is mostly used to prepare traditional dishes like the Leviathan marrow soup. Recipes, translated from Old Earth, reference and name MarkklΓΆΓchen as the archetype for the basis of the meal. The classic bone marrow dumpling recipe for the soup reads as follows:
- Render the marrow in a pan, then mash through a sieve.
- Gently roast the marrow with some green silk (common forest meadow silk is best).
- Water a loaf of day-old bread, squeeze out excess water.
- Mix bread with eggs (preferably treetop dragoon, but garden quail will do as well).
- Stir everything together and season to taste.
- Form small balls and add while cooking your favourite soup.
However, the use of Leviathan bone marrow is controversial. Some frown upon this practice, even go so far as to call it blasphemy. This all goes back to an ethical question: Is it right to exploit the remains of a god? Opponents answer, that the status of the Leviathans as gods is based on pure faith and there is just as much evidence that they were the source of great pain.
The members of one side point at the desolate and lifeless regions, where a Leviathan has found its final resting place, and they say, With the death of the Leviathans the world started dying with them. The other side points at the several megablooms which have since spawned around some of their remains, and they say, The death of the Leviathans was a deliverance and a chance for rebirth.
Who or what they really were, nobody knows for certain. Did they protect the world from breaking apart, or are they to blame for it?
