The Sporecloak is a rare crafted item in the category of live equipment. Because of its symbiotic benefits it is highly valued by green types.

A skilled tailor is needed, one who has mastered the technique of spore infusion, to craft this item. The basis consists of several layers of lamellae from the giant mushrooms which grow along the Ragged Coast. The spore sample for the infusion process must come from the widespread fungal wastes.

If the infusion is done right, the Sporecloak radiates spores, which provide immunity against the deadly spores in the fungal wastes. This aura works for any wearer and as long as the cloak is worn. Without it, the journey through the fungal wastes is guaranteed to be fatal.

Green Types

The mystical green types benefit from this item on a totally different level. With its microscopic hyphae the Sporecloak penetrates the skin of the green type, and fuses with the cells of the host. In addition to enjoying the protective benefits of the spore aura, green types surrender a part of themselves to the Sporecloak for even greater effects. While nourishing itself on the wearer’s organic material the cape increases the metabolic rate of the host while decreasing the need for food intake. Wounds regenerate faster and anaerobic endurance is elevated. This trivialises the journey through the fungal wastes, so much so that green types often venture there to delve for hidden treasures and secrets.

Green types describe the sensation of wearing it for the first time as burning skin. After repeated wear, the burning subsides and is replaced by a maddening itch. Even longer uses lead to assimilation. The unpleasant sensation ceases and the wearer is transitioned into a constant state of ecstasy. Prolonged stay in this stimulating state leads to the characteristic spore eyes, discernible by dilated pupils and the signature yellow blood vessels in the sclera. Assimilation is extremely addictive, which can become a problem, when the very thing that is supposed to keep you alive also feeds on you. Every green type must decide for themselves if it is worth their sanity, and by extension, if it is worth their humanity, to eventually be assimilated.
